VEGETARIAN’S NEW YORK
New York offers an endless variety of vegetarian/ vegan food, but here are my 5 favorites.
1. SMORGASBURGH FLEA FOOD MARKET- BROOKLYN
If you are in New York, do not miss this brilliant flea market that takes place every Sunday. There is a large variety of unique and absolutely delicious food! Try the jelly lemonade which is a favorite there and do not get too late as most of the food gets over really quick. There are a lot of veg options (if you find something really interesting that is not veg, the vendors might even customize the dish for you on request).
2. BEYOND SUSHI- CHELSEA MARKET
A 100% pure veg/vegan Sushi place in the Chelsea market (and other location). They have a large menu and you will want to try everything! They really do an amazing job with their food and you can see them making it fresh, the juices are also good. The market itself is a food paradise so explore and keep tasting all the different yummies. The Chelsea Market is indoors, so save this place for a rainy day!
3. VEGETARIAN DIM SUM HOUSE- CHINATOWN
The Vegetarian Dim Sum House is located on 24 Pell St, NY, do not be put off by looks of this place, they have some great food! They use non-vegetarian terms on their menu but that is only because it is a gimmick of the actual dish (mock meat). And don’t forget your tea! Perfect place to eat for a vegetarian exploring Chinatown.
4. MAMOUN’S FALAFEL
Featured in 1000 places to see before you die (USA & Canada) this place is a must go! It is a small shop located at MacDougal St-near Washington Square Park (the original one, they have more locations). They offer vegetarian/ vegan options and the food is amazing. If you’re bold- try their famous hot sauce, if you’re not bold- try it anyway (be careful)
5. THE STREETS
Almost every street of New York has a pizza place selling big slices ranging from a $1 to $5. You will also find a lot of food trucks selling falafels, donuts, bagels and other veg food. Try the empanadas if you find a truck selling them, they are seriously good!
