CZECH IT OUT

1. TAKE A SEGWAY TOUR

Familiarize yourself with the city on a segway, you will find segway tour guides at the Old Town Square (do not forget to bargain with them). The tour guide will teach you how to ride it and brief you with safety measures, don’t worry- its really easy and takes only about 10 mins. Then off you go touring the city, the guides will show you around and happily answer your questions about Prague- how to get around, current events etc.

2. PRAGUE CASTLE

You can spend hours exploring the Prague Castle which is the largest ancient castle in the world. There is a lot to see so plan your time there accordingly, try not to miss the gardens, The castle is open daily but do check the opening hours as they vary depending on what parts of the castle you want to visit. You can get there by tram number 22. (Tip that a local gave me- If you’re travelling from the Old Town area get off one stop after the actual castle stop and walk to the castle, the views on that walk are incredible, it takes about 10 minutes). Since the castle is on a hill don’t forget to take a picture stop before you enter the gates as you can see an amazing view of Prague from the top.      DSC_0195 prague (26 of 54)castle

3. GET THE BEST VIEW OF PRAGUE

This one takes some hard work but its totally worth it. You need to cross the Cechuv Bridge, cross the road and you will see stairs, climb up to the top! This is the Letna Park and you need to get to the huge metronome structure at the top of the park. The view overlooks the Vltava River and Prague’s bridges. I am not even going to describe the view, you can see it for yourself in the picture below. Visit this place in the evening, stroll around the park and head down after you have taken some amazing photographs of city and the sun set.

4. DRINK BEER

Czech Republic is famous for its beer so try the local. There are many articles about what bars you should go to in Prague, but honestly just any will have great selections for you. In fact if you’re a student or just want to save on some money- head to a local supermarket. They have a large variety of super cheap beer, starting at maybe a dollar or less! You even get “Duff” beer from the TV show Simpsons here. Even restaurants will have special local beers, tell them your taste type and they will offer what suits you best.

5. CHARLES BRIDGE AND THE TOP

You cannot miss the Charles Bridge when in Prague. Walk the bridge, buy some souvenirs, maybe even put a lock, get some pictures and admire the river. But when you’re done with what everyone else does, go the end of the bridge where you see a tower. There is a tiny door/ entrance which can easily be missed if you do not know about this place. Climb up the stairs until you get to the middle where you need to buy a ticket to get to the absolute top of the tower. This is the next best view of Prague, some may argue it is the best.

6. OLD TOWN SQUARE

Explore the old town square, walk around the surrounding areas too. Check out the oldest working astronomical clock in the world, which is beautiful. Grab lunch in one of those open bar/ restaurants. Visit the Sex Machine Museum if you’re up for it, but it might scar you! There are loads of shops there- local, retail brands and high end boutiques if you have the time.

7. GET ON A TRAM

Trams are probably the best way to get around in Prague, its well connected to all the sights, cheap and quick and easy.

8. BAR CRAWL

And taste all the amazing beers, get to know some new people!

9. THAT 5 STORY CLUB

Karlovy Lazne is for everyone, 5 floors with 5 different music genres. Its near the Charles Bridge and people usually end up there after their bar crawl. It gets really busy even though its so big, so excuse their sticky floors.

10. PRAGUE CARNIVAL

If your are planning to go in February : https://outofhersuitcase.wordpress.com/2014/11/03/boho-carnival-in-prague/

I’m sure there are many more things to do in Prague, I have put down the highlights of my two days spent there.
